Budget for a Month in Trogir, Croatia

How Much Does It Cost to Stay in Trogir for a Month?

The budget for a month in Trogir depends on the level of luxury required. We believe that traveling full-time requires a moderate level of comfort. Most people (us included) could not stay in a hostel month after month and continue to travel indefinitely. With that in mind, two people can stay a month in Trogir comfortably for less than $2,600. On the other hand, if you require 4-star accommodations and white tablecloth meals, it will cost significantly more.

Where did this number come from? Well, we spent a month in Trogir, and I kept a detailed spreadsheet with all our daily expenses. I used this spreadsheet to put together three budgets (low, mid, and high) depending on various requirements. The budgets include a breakdown that will allow you to put together your own estimate based on your needs.

Of course, these budgets assume you live like us and stay in one place for the entire month. If you move around during the month, your budget will go up for the increase in lodging (shorter stays cost more per day) and transportation.

Monthly Budget for Two People in Trogir

There are substantial savings when traveling as a couple or with a friend compared to traveling alone. For example, there are some savings on the grocery bill. It’s more than it would be for one person, but it’s not twice as much. On the other hand, some costs are twice as much. There are rarely discounts on museum tickets or other entertainment.

If you want to estimate how much it would cost to travel alone, you can make some deductions for Groceries and Dining, Entertainment, Transportation, and International Health Insurance. However, the Lodging and Miscellaneous costs will be about the same for one person as for two.

Lodging

The Old Town of Trogir is very small. This means that, while it is beautiful, finding a comfortable apartment with a full kitchen available for a month is challenging. Typically, we require accommodations in the Old Town, but we could not find a suitable place in Trogir. Although our apartment was on the mainland, it was very close and had a fantastic view of the Old Town, allowing us to enjoy the beautiful sunsets.

Groceries and Dining

There are two main grocery stores in Trogir: the Konzum and the Plodine. My favorite was the Plodine for its large selection of reasonably priced Croatian wine. They have the wine section broken down by the regions of Croatia.

The Plodine, combined with the many butcher shops around the Green Market and the fish market across the street from the Green Market, will set you up to prepare great meals using local products.

I went through the Green Market several times but did not purchase anything. There weren’t prices on things, and I was intimidated by the language barrier.

Entertainment

Trogir doesn’t have many attractions that require entrance fees, and the ones that do, charge a minimal fee of around $3 per person. Most of your entertainment budget will go to boating excursions and bike rentals.

Transportation

The transportation budget assumes you are coming from Split Airport. The cheapest way to get from Split Airport to Trogir is by bus. The Number 37 bus runs every twenty minutes to/from the bus station to/from the airport. It is $2 per person each way.

If taking the bus with your luggage is not your thing, a taxi will get you there for about $20. To book a taxi or private transfer in advance, we recommend GetTransfer.

If you are traveling to Trogir by land and not air and want to save money on transportation costs, check out FlixBus. You can see their schedules and purchase tickets online. We haven’t used them yet because they don’t allow dogs and we travel with our Frenchie, Gus, but they are very popular, and we see their buses often.

While Trogir is a very popular day-trip destination from Split, it is not as popular for overnight guests. As a result, lodging prices are pretty reasonable. However, they are significantly higher during the summer than in the winter. While you can visit any time of year on these budgets, you will get much nicer accommodations for your money in the off-season than in the peak summer months.

I have also prepared monthly budgets for other cities we have visited. If you combine budgets to calculate the cost of a longer, multi-city stay, you will need to include additional transfer costs.
