Budget for a Month in Rovinj, Croatia

How Much Does It Cost to Stay in Rovinj, Croatia for a Month?

The budget for a month in Rovinj, Croatia depends on the level of luxury required. We believe that traveling full-time requires a moderate level of comfort. Most people (us included) could not stay in a hostel month after month and continue to travel indefinitely. With that in mind, two people can stay a month in Rovinj comfortably for less than $4,200. On the other hand, if you require 4-star accommodations and white tablecloth meals, it will cost significantly more.

Where did this number come from? Well, we spent a month in Rovinj, and I kept a detailed spreadsheet with all our daily expenses. I used this spreadsheet to put together three budgets (low, mid, and high) depending on various requirements. The budgets include a breakdown that will allow you to put together your own estimate based on your needs.

Of course, these budgets assume you live like us and stay in one place for the entire month. If you move around during the month, your budget will go up for the increase in lodging (shorter stays cost more per day) and transportation.

Monthly Budget for Two People in Rovinj, Croatia

There are substantial savings when traveling as a couple or with a friend compared to traveling alone. For example, there are some savings on the grocery bill. It’s more than it would be for one person, but it’s not twice as much. On the other hand, some costs are twice as much. There are rarely discounts on museum tickets or other entertainment.

If you want to estimate how much it would cost to travel alone, you can make some deductions for Groceries and Dining, Entertainment, Transportation, and International Health Insurance. However, the Lodging and Miscellaneous costs will be about the same for one person as for two.

Lodging

Real estate in Rovinj is very expensive and is reflected in the high cost of apartment rentals. The supply in Rovinj is low, and the demand is very high. It is a very popular destination for Germans, Austrians, Italians, and Croatians. Our host stated that his apartment is booked a year out. Don’t let that stop you from going! It is a fantastic place!

Groceries and Dining

Groceries in Rovinj cost more near the Old Town than at the larger grocery stores on the roads coming into Rovinj. Our favorite grocery stores were the Super Konzum and Kauflands. If you are big into walking and aiming for 10k steps per day, you can walk to either, as there are sidewalks all the way there. Don’t forget your reusable bags! They charge for each grocery bag.

Entertainment

Beaches and swimming in the sea are very popular day activities in Rovinj, and both are free. There are many excellent beaches that you can walk to and spend the day. We highly recommend the nearby Mulini Beach.

Transportation

I assume you are transferring from Trieste for this budget since it is the closest train hub that can take you all over Europe.

There are ferries that run during the summer months from Rovinj and Venice. Ferries in Europe and the companies that service routes are constantly changing, so I have not included them here. You can assume that the ferry will be more expensive than the bus but less expensive than a taxi.

If want to save money on transportation costs, check out FlixBus. You can see their schedules and purchase tickets online. We haven’t used them yet because they don’t allow dogs and we travel with our Frenchie, Gus, but they are very popular, and we see their buses often.

We took a private transfer from Trieste to Rovinj. It cost $250 each way during July and August, which is the high season. To book a taxi or private transfer, we recommend GetTransfer.

Because Rovinj is a very popular destination for European tourists, lodging prices are significantly higher during the summer than in the winter. While you can visit any time of year on these budgets, you will get much nicer accommodations for your money in the off-season than in the peak summer months.
