We’ve been traveling full-time for well over a year. We are meticulous planners, and things have gone smoothly for the most part. But, there are some things we would have done differently if we had known then what we know now.

Here are our thoughts and opinions about various aspects of traveling full-time.

We have spent a significant amount of time in Albania. It has left a strong impression. From ancient ruins to rugged coastlines, we found the culture unique and the people incredibly welcoming.

We visited Austria during our second year of full-time travel and plan to return multiple times in the future. Anyone who enjoys nature should have Austria at the top of their travel list.

Traveling in Bosnia has been one of the most rewarding parts of our adventure. We’ve met many wonderful people from different cultures and learned a lot of valuable lessons along the way.

Bulgaria was a surprising discovery during our second summer of full-time travel. Plovdiv, the second largest city in Bulgaria, has been designated as the European Capital of Culture. The city’s majestic hills, ancient ruins from Thracian, Greek, and Roman civilizations, stunning revival-era architecture, and lively art scene were an unexpected highlight our Balkan adventure.

So far, our time in Czechia has been limited to the captivating city of Prague, where centuries of history meet a vibrant modern culture. We enjoyed our time so much that we’re returning for almost 3 months next year!

We spent September and October in the eastern France towns of Strasbourg and Lyon. The fall weather was cool and pleasant. In the future, we plan to spend a lot more time in France.

Hungary surprised us with its deep history, rich culture, and affordable luxuries. Budapest is one of our favorite cities in Europe, thanks to its amazing food, excellent wine, and – most importantly, relaxing thermal baths.

Montenegro may be small, but it’s packed with natural beauty and dramatic coastal towns. We were amazed by the scenery—where rugged mountains drop into the sea—and charmed by the historic walled cities that line the Adriatic. Definitely one of our favorite wintertime destinations for moderate weather and good value.

Slovakia’s central location makes it a great jumping-off point for exploring Central Europe—but don’t rush through it.
