We have below-provided tours to explore the fortified churches on your own with a rental car, but if a group tour is more your speed, here are some great ones!

Tour No. 1: Southeast of Sighisoara

The villages of Cloasterf, Crit, Saschiz, and Viscri all have impressive fortified churches. In fact, Viscri and Saschiz are included on the UNESCO World Heritage list. We recommend starting early in the morning and traveling to Viscri, then working your way back towards Sighisoara.

While we spent longer in some villages and churches than others, it generally took a little more than an hour to visit each. So, you could leave Sighisoara at 9:00 a.m., visit all four villages with fortified churches, have lunch, and be back in Sighisoara before 4:00 p.m.

Tour No. 2: Southwest of Sighisoara

The villages of Alma Vii, Biertan, Copsa Mare, Mosna, and Richis all have impressive fortified churches. In fact, Biertan is included on the UNESCO World Heritage list. We recommend starting early in the morning and traveling to Mosna, then working your way back towards Sighisoara.

You could leave Sighisoara at 9:00 a.m., visit all five villages with fortified churches, have lunch, and be back in Sighisoara by 5:00 p.m.

Tour No. 3: West of Sighisoara

The villages of Malancrav and Valea Viilor all have impressive fortified churches. In fact, Valea Viilor is included on the UNESCO World Heritage list. We recommend starting early in the morning and traveling to Valea Viilor, then stopping at Malancrav on the way back to Sighisoara.

You could leave Sighisoara at 9:00 a.m., visit both villages with fortified churches, and be back in Sighisoara by 1:30 p.m.

The village of Darjiu has one of the seven UNESCO World Heritage list fortified churches in Transylvania. You could leave Sighisoara at 9:00 a.m., visit the village and fortified church, and be back in Sighisoara by noon.
