Žilavka is the clearest first white wine to order. It is closely associated with Herzegovina and appears in styles ranging from fresh, dry whites to fuller wines influenced by lees or oak.

Blatina is the main local red to recognize. Bottles vary by producer and blend, so compare it by the glass before buying several bottles.

Vranac and Trnjak provide additional red-wine choices. Vranac is found across several Balkan countries, while Trnjak is closely connected with Herzegovina and nearby Dalmatian wine areas.

Mostar’s wine choices divide between the Old Town around Stari Most, the newer city west of the historic center, and winery areas south of central Mostar. Choose the Old Town for an easy tasting during sightseeing, the western city for a dedicated wine bar and bottle shop, or the outskirts when the winery setting is the main reason for the outing.

Imperial Vineyards Winery, also known as Carski Vinogradi, forms part of the Emporia wine and hospitality complex. The producer works with local grapes including Žilavka and Blatina as well as international varieties.

Tolj Winery is another official Herzegovina Wine Route member in the Čitluk area. It adds a smaller producer to a route that might otherwise consist only of larger wineries.

Rubis Winery sits in the broader Čitluk wine area and produces local and international grape varieties.

Rubis fits a western winery day when you have already chosen Čitluk as the main area. Confirm the visit directly and avoid assuming that published retail hours also apply to tastings.

Choose accommodation based on whether you want Old Town tasting rooms within walking distance or easier vehicle access for winery trips. The streets beside Stari Most favor evening tastings and restaurants, while properties west or south of the Old Town may simplify pickup and parking.

Stay near Stari Most and Mala Tepa when Via Vino, The Spirit of Herzegovina, restaurants, and evening walks are the priority. Choose accommodation outside the busiest pedestrian lanes when you need parking, a taxi pickup point, or a faster departure toward wineries south and west of Mostar.
