The Barrel Wine Corner opened in June 2023. They frequently host wine-tasting events with presentations and live music. We attended an event where one of the top winemakers in Bulgaria presented numerous wines and explained the winemaking process for each glass.

They made us feel very welcomed with occasional English translations!

Bendida Winery is a family-owned winery in Brestovitsa, just 18 km from Plovdiv. They produce limited handcrafted wines using Rubin, a local grape variety. The winery sells its wine and offers wine tastings at its winery and Plovdiv wine shop.

Brestovitsa Winery is located in the southwest of Plovdiv, 17 km away from the city, in the fertile Thracian lowlands. This area has a rich history of producing high-quality wine for over a thousand years. The winery was constructed in the late 1930s by French engineers and represents a classic example of a French above-ground cellar with a total capacity of 4,000,000 liters. The winery uses excellent hand-picked grapes that are fermented using classical technology to produce high-quality wines.

Villa Vinifera Winery was established in 1936 by a German whose name has been lost to time. Originally known as “Misket,” the winery has been continuously operational since its founding. Villa Vinifera cultivates a variety of grapes including Mavrud, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Muscat, Chardonnay, and Traminer.

The Dzhingarovi family has been in the grape business since 1940. Dzhinvira Winery opened in 2018. Behind the winery are the two great-grandchildren of the original founder: Georgi Dzhingarov and Tanya Dzhingarova. The sister-brother duo has a deep passion for continuing the family legacy, developing the winery, and creating authentic wines from the land that has been in their family for centuries.

The vineyards and winery are situated in the village of Brestovitza, just a 20-minute drive from Plovdiv. The winery produces limited quantities of wine, sold under the brand name “Thracian Rider,” and includes white, rosé, and red wines. Visitors can expect a warm welcome and genuine hospitality. Take a stroll through the vineyards, enjoy a wine tasting at the charming small winery, and immerse yourself in the centuries-old history.

Todoroff Wine Cellar specializes in the production of high-quality red wines in boutique series and limited quantities. It is located in Brestovitsa. The production capacity of the cellar is for the processing of about 400,000 bottles of quality wines.

Villa Yustina Winery is a popular destination for wine lovers. Located in Yustina Village, 26 km from Plovdiv, this boutique winery produces high-quality wines from grapes grown on 43 hectares of vineyards. It grows a variety of grapes, including Mavrud, Rubin, and Dimyat, and produces all styles of wines. Villa Yustina’s wines are classified into four categories: Villa Yustina, 4 Seasons, Monogram, and Reserve. Visitors can explore the vineyard park, book a wine-tasting session in the tasting room, enjoy a meal at the restaurant, and even spend the night in the guesthouse.

Winery Assenovgrad (“Vinzavod” Asenovgrad) was established in 1947 based on the “Stanimashki Mavrud” wine-growing cooperative. The winery is well-known in Bulgaria and around the world for its trademark “Mavrud Asenovgrad,” “Mavrud Reserve,” “Mavrud KNP,” and “Manastirsko Shushukane.”

Wine Cellar Vinograd JSC is an old cellar with a rich tradition. It was founded in 1932-1933. Red, white, and rose wines are produced from Mavrud, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay and Muscat. Wine tastings and tours are available upon request.

Zagreus is a family-owned winery with 120 hectares of vineyards that is a 40-minute drive from Plovdiv. Zagreus mainly cultivates Mavrud grapes, but they also grow Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, and Merlot grapes. Zagreus produces a variety of wine styles, including white, rosé, red, and sweet wines.

Since 2013, Zagreus has been an organic-certified winery.

Dragomir Estate Winery is a collaborative project between two Bulgarian oenologists, Natalia Gadjeva and Konstantin Stoev. They produce wines using both international grape varieties and Bulgarian grape varieties such as Mavrud, Rubin, and Dimyat. Initially located in Plovdiv, in 2019, they relocated to a modern building in the village of Brestnik, which is only 10 km away from Plovdiv and a quick 15-minute drive. The winery has a small production and releases limited-batch wines under various brands, including Pitos Reserve, Dragomir, Dessert Wines, and Sarva.

The winery warmly welcomes all visitors and is known for its enthusiastic and welcoming atmosphere.

It’s the trendy neighborhood between the Old Town and the City Center. The charm and ambiance of the Old Town are nice, but there are far more food and drink options in Kapana – and a pedestrian tunnel connects the two together! The castle marker on the map below is the heart of the Kapana District, with the best restaurants nearby. We suggest staying as close to it as possible, depending on your budget and preferences.
